Born in St. Marc, Haiti, Garcelle Beauvais enjoyed a "perfectly normal" childhood with her four older sisters and two older brothers. At the age of seven she and her family immigrated to the U.S. so that her mother could attend nursing school.
Garcelle and her family at age sixteen, decided to move from Massachussetts to enjoy the warmer climate of Miami, Florida.
At seventeen, Garcelle began her modeling career. She signed with Ford models in New York and appeared in magazine layouts for Avon, Clairol and Mary Kay Cosmetics. She has also graced the pages of Ebony and Essence magazines and the runways for designers Calvin Klein and Isaac Mizrahi. Beauvais ecently completed a five-year run in the hit sitcom "The Jamie Foxx Show," in which she portrayed Foxx's love interest. In the movie industry, Beauvais starred opposite Eddie Griffina and Orlando Jones, she co-stars in the cable movie "Second String," a football drama with Jon Voight, Gil Bellows and Richard T. Jones. She also recently completed filming the Disney/Touchstone feature "Black Sheep," opposite Chris Rock and Anthony Hopkins, for director Joel Schumacher.

The formation of orchestra and folklore musicians engenders the beginning of the history of Haitian music. Born in February 1918, Nemours Jean Baptiste created the most popular of Haitian music “Compas Direct”. One of the best saxophonists of his time, Nemours was not alone in this project. He had help from other Haitian musicians such as: Julien Paul, virtuous saxophonist Weber Sicot and the Durosseau brothers who founded Conjunto International on July 26, 1955, the very first Compas band. Later on, other musicians such as: Mozard Duroseau, Monfort Jean-Baptiste, Colber Krutzer Duroseau, Richard Duroseau and Anilus Cadet joined the band. From there came the creation of other bands, groups individual performers including: Altchery Dorival, Gary French, Atomic, Tana, Richard Durossau Lumane Casimir, Yvon Luissain, and Meridionale des Cayes Titato, Maison Ante, Zobola, Diabolo, Jazz Des Jeunes, Les Etoiles, Ti Paris, Nirvana, Marcele Augustin, and so on. Switching from Haitian folklore to Compas Direct was not an easy task for the pioneers. Nemours Jean Baptiste and Weber Sicot fought for a long period of time before they could identify their musical style. Embracing their outstanding a new generation of Haitian musicians took over and makes Compas Direct a new and improves musical style for young people to dance. The new generation danced the music of Les Ambassadeurs, Les :Loups noirs, Les Schleu Schleu, Les Gypsies de PetionVille, Les Fantasistes de Carrefour, Septentrionale the Tabou Combo de PetionVille and more!!! The next level of compass now comprised of Nu Look, T-Vice, D’Jakout Music, Zin, and Sweet Mickey just to name a few.
